- Good lighting in the room
- Smile
- Look into the camera
- Don't be a robot
Here are a few tips for recording great video greetings:
- Good lighting: Make sure there's enough light. Honestly, there can't be too much light. It's generally a good idea to be facing the light to avoid the picture being blown out or your face becoming a silhouette. This means that especially if you're shooting next to a window, the window isn't behind you but in front of you. So place your camera so that it's shooting away from the main source of light and your face should be nicely lit.
- Place the camera at your eye level: You don't want to be looking down at your customer, but you don't want to be looking up at them either. The best height for your camera is your own eye level, so that you're looking at your customer as an equal.
- Look directly into the camera or just past it: You don't have to stare directly into the lens of your camera, but you should at least look right next to it to give the appearance of eye contact. Looking at your screen, for example, looks to the viewer like you're avoiding eye contact or reading off a script.
- Don't be a robot: This means that you shouldn't read off a script and you shouldn't memorize one either. Think about what you're going to say before hitting record, but don't plan the whole thing word by word.
- Greet your customer: Say hi, use their name, make sure you're pronouncing their name correctly, wave. You're a friendly, considerate person in real life, so why not be one on video?
- Remember to smile!
